Germans

As it was established before, German people quickly feel uncomfortable when there is nothing to be offended or worried about. If they currently have no personal reason to be offended or worried about anything, they will go to a bookstore to buy a book written by what they consider to be a much more intelligent person, who happens to be altruistic and kind enough to lecture them about recent developments that they should better be offended or worried about [...]

Man, is that a great blog!

What Is Wrong With the Web

This is what’s wrong with the web. I’ll be glad when Flash is dead, it has outlived its usefulness. Except for interactive games, everything it can do can be done better with HTML 5, AJAX and all these other fancy technologies.

(To be fair, the page renders fine on the iPhone, without Flash).

To All The People…

…whose argument regarding recent and past child abuses by the catholic church is that child abuse happens anywhere:

Yes, it does, as do many other crimes. It takes an organization like the catholic church, though, to systematically protect the offenders, silence the victims and thus encourage further abuse.

Here’s an article about the document that does exactly that. Signed by Pope John XXIII in 1962.

This is criminal, and has nothing to do with faith or religion.

If anyone thinks that this is something that happened in the dark past of the sixties: Ratzinger, the current Pope Benedict, made clear that this document is still in effect. In 2001.

Looking at this, I have no idea how anyone can be catholic in this day and age.

Recharge

There are 7 devices with built-in rechargeable batteries in my house.

4 are computer and telecommunication machines, 2 are in the bathroom and 1 is a real toy.

Metropolis “Director’s Cut”

For some reason this got by me unnoticed: Two years ago, they found the missing parts of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis.

Now they have put it back together. [German]

I remember the time I watched it. I did so very reluctantly in the beginning, not expecting much from a 80-year old mute film.

I was captivated quickly, and I loved the movie. An excellent piece of cinematic art, and a great story.
